Biography
Dr Thomas Hardy is an ophthalmologist specialising in treatment of disorders of the eyelids, orbit (eye socket) and lacrimal (tear drainage) system.
Dr Hardy graduated from Melbourne University in 1994, worked as a junior medical officer at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, then trained as an ophthalmologist at the Eye and Ear from 1998-2000. From 2001-2005 he undertook post-graduate fellowship training in eyelid, orbital and lacrimal surgery in the UK at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London for 3 years, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for 1 year, and additionally in Cambridge, Salisbury and Southampton.
Dr Hardy is a consultant ophthalmologist specialising in orbital, oculoplastic and lacrimal disorders at the Eye and Ear, Royal Melbourne Hospital and Royal Children’s Hospital. He became head of unit of the OPAL unit in 2020. He holds an honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer position at the University of Melbourne Department of Surgery and an Honorary Researcher position at the Centre for Eye Research Australia. He has published over 50 papers in the medical literature, and several book chapters. Dr Thomas Hardy is actively involved in teaching and training of students, ophthalmology trainees and overseas fellows and in medical research. He is an executive member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Ophthalmic Plastics Surgeons (ANZSOPS).
