Epley Omniax Positioning System
The procedure
The Epley Omniax Positioning System is automated patient positioning equipment used to diagnose and treat many forms of dizziness that is brought on when a person moves. It is the only system of its type in Victoria (using funds provided by a Gandel Philanthropy Community Grant).
Your first appointment will take between 30 minutes and one hour. We try to keep to schedule, however sometimes appointments may be delayed if we have a difficult case ahead of your appointment time.
You will be seated in a chair, secured with a harness and slowly moved to various positions. Infrared video goggles will record your eye movements and the clinician will analyse the results to help diagnose and treat your dizziness. Medicine is sometimes used at the time of assessment to manage any worsening of nausea or dizziness.
Important instructions
Please take time to read the following instructions:
- Fast for four hours before your appointment (note: you can drink water in this period).
- Contact the clinic if you have diabetes, as your appointment time may need to be changed.
- Please take your regular medications.
- Please note the following in regard to clothing:
- Do not wear dangling jewellery
- Do not wear eye makeup, particularly eye liner and mascara, as this interferes with the tracking of your eyes during video recordings
- Wear pants and not a skirt or dress for modesty
- Wear comfortable flat shoes, rather than high heels.
- Please bring someone with you to escort you home as you may feel unsteady following the assessment.
- Please bring your Medicare card with you as all costs are covered by Medicare.
After your assessment
You may be given specific instructions and exercises following the treatment to assist your recovery. At least one follow-up appointment is usually necessary.
A report of the findings and any treatment will be sent to your referring doctor.
