This week we presented the annual Excellence Awards during our 2022-2023 Annual General Meeting. The Excellence Awards are the hospital’s most prestigious awards, celebrating staff and teams who have gone above and beyond for the hospital demonstrating outstanding hard work and dedication.
The winners of this year’s excellence awards are:
Board Chair’s Medal – Dr David Marty
Dr Marty has been an ear, nose and throat (ENT) consultant surgeon at the hospital for over 35 years. As head of the Rhinology unit for the past 16 years, he has trained the next generation of rhinologists both in Australia and across the world.
He continues to provide exemplary mentoring to trainees and outstanding care to his patients.
Administrative / Clerical / Support Services Excellence Award – Emilia Yang and Sanjay Singh
Emilia Yang is our Finance Business Partner. Emilia always goes above and beyond, is collaborative in her approach and values teamwork. She is a greatly valued member of the team.
Sanjay Singh has project managed the hospital’s redevelopment. Over the past five years, he has shown tremendous leadership and commitment.
Allied Health Excellence Award – Jenny Nguyen
Jenny is a vestibular audiologist and has been a part of the General Audiology, Speech and Balance team since 2016. She is a skilled clinician, utilising her clinical and personal skills to put patients at ease, enabling her to obtain the quality diagnostic information required to assist with often complex medical management of our patients.
Jenny cares deeply about her colleagues, thrives within the team environment and is widely respected not just by the Audiology team, but also by the wider hospital community.
Nursing Excellence Award – Toby Pontifex
Toby is the Nurse Unit Manager of Specialist Clinics. His dedication to Specialist Clinics throughout the years has outstanding, which was particularly evidenced through the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. His dedication to nursing and the hospital continues to empower the nursing staff progressively and support them in instilling the hospital’s values and what they represent. He is a highly regarded and respected member of the Clinical Operations, Ambulatory Services and Senior Nursing cohorts at the Eye and Ear.
Dr. J Aubrey Bowen Medal – Dr Tim Godfrey
Dr Godfrey is the head of our Ocular Rheumatology Clinic, which he founded in collaboration with the members of the Ocular Immunology Clinic. It is the only Ocular Rheumatology clinic in Victoria to support the systemic needs of those patients.
He is passionate about providing the best quality and safest care for his patients and has established a unit where the various craft groups are working together towards shared goals.
Excellence in Teamwork – Marketing and Communications team
The Marketing and Communications team provides all of hospital support and has been a driving force behind many of the projects and events across the hospital.
Joanne Brodie leads the Marketing and Communications Team, which consists of Siobhan Gerrard, Aimee Malotsis and Tom Elia. This is a very small yet highly productive team. They take carriage of the hospital’s reputation strategy and have done a sterling job this year.
