Program Overview:

Duration of Program 12 months

Commencement in mid-January

Employment Hours for Program Part Time: 64 hours per fortnight
General Information
  • 4-day orientation program at commencement
  • 4 study days throughout the year
  • Supernumerary time at commencement of each rotation
  • Dedicated Graduate education staff

  • Applicants will need to have APHRA registration, prior to commencement of the program.

 

Pease include the following information and documents with your online application:

  • A cover letter addressed to Sonja Lavery, Graduate Enrolled Nurse Coordinator
  • Up to date resume/CV- including 2 current referees
  • Most recent academic transcript (certification not necessary)
  • 2 clinical appraisals, one from an acute clinical placement
  • Applicants must possess current working rights/Visa status to work in Australia

Applicants will be notified via email after the closing date, regarding the outcome of their application. Those selected will be invited to attend a face-to-face interview.

About the Registered Nurse Program

Medical/Surgical

12 months 12 months

Duration/number of rotations

Graduate Nurses will rotate through three of the below departments for 4 months each rotation.
  • 12 months in Scrub/Scout, OR
  • 2 x six month in Anaesthetics/PACU

  • Inpatient Ward
  • Surgical Admissions and Recovery (SAR)
  • Emergency Department
  • Pre-Admission
  • Specialist Clinics

Hours offered

  • Part time
  • 64 hours per fortnight
  • Full time
  • 80 hours per fortnight

Orientation

When you start your employment at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, you will attend a 4-day comprehensive orientation program. This includes an introduction to ophthalmic and ear, nose, throat (ENT) nursing.

Supernumerary

In each clinical area, you will be supernumerary for a specific period based on both your needs and those of the clinical area.

Clinical Support

Each clinical area has a Clinical Support Nurse and a Clinical Nurse Educator who will support your learning and transition to working independently. The Eye and Ear provides a preceptorship model, where experienced Registered Nurses offer additional support.

Study Days/Continuing Professional Development

  • 4 study days – includes specialist and general nursing topics
  • Comprehensive education program including mandatory and professionally recommended courses. Some include practical components.
  • Regular in-service education
