At the Eye and Ear, we have a team of expert cochlear implant clinicians working at our Cochlear Implant Clinic, including 10 Audiologists, three Speech Pathologists and 13 Otologists.
Jaime Leigh has 20 years experience as a clinical and research audiologist in the cochlear implant field. Jaime’s role as a Senior Clinician at The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, Cochlear implant Clinic involves supporting adults, children, and their families through the pre and post-operative phases of the cochlear implantation process. Most recently, Jaime has lead the development and establishment of the Victorian Cochlear Implant Program. Jaime holds a Research Fellowship at the University of Melbourne and is passionate about research that directly influences clinical practice. Jaime has published in a diverse range of cochlear implant areas including; candidacy, speech and language outcomes, benefits of early implantation and management of patients receiving bilateral cochlear implants, and is actively involved in the education and training of Master of Audiology and PhD students at the University of Melbourne.
Professor Robert JS Briggs FRACS
Medical Director, Cochlear Implant Clinic
Professor Robert Briggs is an Otolaryngologist with a clinical practice and research specialising in Otology and Neurotology. His current appointments are Clinical Professor in the University of Melbourne Departments of Surgery and Otolaryngology and Medical Director of the Cochlear Implant Clinic at The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. He has a large experience with acoustic neuroma surgery and with cochlear implantation. His research has focused on Cochlear Implant Electrode development and safety as well as Cochlear Implant outcomes, particularly in young children.
Mr Rod Hollow
Clinic Coordinator, Cochlear Implant Clinic and Balance Services
Rod Hollow is an audiologist and Clinic Co-ordinator for the Cochlear Implant Clinic, Audiology, and Balance Services at The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. Over the last 30 years, Rod has specialised in the clinical application of implantable hearing devices; supporting many adults, children, and their families through the cochlear and bone conduction implantation processes. He has also worked as a research audiologist on sound coding development. Rod has experience as a lecturer in the field of cochlear implants; being involved in international training workshops and the University of Melbourne.
Mr Stefan Wigg
Manager, Cochlear Implant Clinic and Balance Services
Stefan has a background in Occupational Therapy and over 20 years experience in the health care sector. Working predominately in public hospitals Stefan has been managing large multidisciplinary teams for over 10 years. Although still new to the world of Cochlear implants he is passionate about reducing barriers to accessing the most appropriate hearing solutions for all Victorians through continuous improvement and innovation.
