In celebration of International Women’s Day, we’ll be highlighting some of the incredible work being undertaken by women at the Eye and Ear. Working in ophthalmology, academia and in leadership roles, the Eye and Ear’s Dr Elsie Chan has been helping to achieve gender parity on the RANZCO Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology Editorial Board.
Dr Elsie Chan is a consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in cornea and anterior segments disorders at the Eye and Ear. As well as this, Dr Chan is an Honorary Fellow with CERA and the University of Melbourne, and is the section editor of the official RANZCO journal Clinical & Experimental Ophthalmology.
In a recent Eye2eye article, Dr Chan was profiled, discussing her role in editorial and ophthalmology as well as overcoming gender hurdles within the editorial board. Pleasingly the RANZCO Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology Editorial Board has achieved gender parity in terms of representation, and Dr Chan continues to pave the way for gender equality both as a Board Member, and in academia and ophthalmology practice.
As an editor for both the journal and a stand-alone Twitter account, Dr Chan has gained over 450 followers through her Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology work, with daily tweets providing regular updates on the world of eye care and treatment.
