TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The library's borrowing procedure is designed to maximize access to the collections through the healthy circulation of materials. Most texts and audiovisual materials are available for loan to registered members of the library. Overdue penalties will be reviewed every three years.

The following types of library material are not for loan:

  • Reference materials : Quick fact-finding resources such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc.
  • Journals
  • Any material marked with a "not for loan" sticker

Loan Procedures
A valid Library card must be produced when borrowing items. Materials which cannot be collected during library opening hours may be picked up after-hours by making prior arrangements with the library staff. Items may be renewed prior to the date due by contacting the library. You can also renew item due dates online, through your My Library account on the Library Catalogue. Items can be renewed twice, after which it must be returned to the library. You will need your library card barcode number and your PIN to login. If you do not have your PIN, please contact us. Reservations can be made on items currently on loan.

Loan Periods

  • Books from the General Collection: 14 day loan.
  • Books from the Core Collection: 7 day loan.
  • Audiovisual Material: 7 day loan.
  • * Special due dates maybe assigned periodically.

Loan Entitlements

  • Books and other publications: Up to 5 at any one time.
  • Audiovisual items: Up to 5 at any one time
  • Students: A total of 3 items of any type can be borrowed at any one time.

Overdue Penalties
This applies to Long Overdue books that have been assigned lost status : Replacement cost plus $25 Administrative fee, unless item is returned.

Three system-generated overdue alerts are sent out: 1st alert - 1 day overdue; 2nd alert - 7 days overdue; Third alert - 14 days overdue.

Returns
Returned material to be deposited in the Returns Box on the Library Information Desk.

Borrowing During Closure Hours
Registered library members with library cards may borrow items when the library is closed using the steps below:

  • Registered members to fill out the Borrowing During Closure Hours form at the Information Desk counter and ensure that they include their borrower card BARCODE (e.g. B00044) at the back of their library card.
  • Library staff to check forms and issue items out in SPYDUS Circulation. A confirmation email will be sent out to borrowers to confirm the details of items borrowed and due dates.
