Loans

The library’s borrowing procedure is designed to maximise access to the collections through the healthy circulation of materials.  Read more in our Library Membership web page. This  Borrower Application Form which will need to be filled in,  signed, dated and returned to the library either by email, fax or post.
Most monograph (book) and audiovisual materials are available for loan to registered library members.

The following types of library material are not for loan:
Reference materials
Journals
Any material marked with a “not for loan” sticker

Loan Procedures

All library users  will be required to produce their current  hospital/employer/student identification when registering for library membership. Library cards will be issued on approval of membership and must be furnished when borrowing items.
Material which cannot be collected during library opening hours may be picked up after-hours by making prior arrangements with the library staff.

Reservations may be made on items currently on loan. You are also able to reserve items online through your My Library account.

Loan Periods

Books from the General Collection: 14 day loan.
Books from the Core Collection: 7 day loan.
Audiovisual Material: 7 day loan.

Loan Entitlements

Books and other publications: Up to 5 at any one time
Audiovisual items: Up to 5 at any one time

Students:

A total of 3 items can be borrowed at any one time.

Renew Books

1. To renew your library items, you can either:

  • Click on the Library catalogue link below and login to renew your items . You will need your library card barcode number and your PIN which was sent to you with your card.
  • OR You can renew using the Library’s self-checkout station located near the Information Desk in the Library.

2. You can only renew items 3 times after which they must be returned to the Library to enable our staff to access it as well. You may re-borrow after 7 consecutive days.

Forgotten your PIN? Contact us to obtain a new one which you can then change once logged in.

2. Once logged in, you can also reserve items that are out on loan.

3. You can also setup Alert Profiles of your favourite subject areas. This will enable you to receive alerts of  new titles added to the library collection that match your profile (Click on the  New Alert Profile tab)

Overdue Penalties

The Library Committee has endorsed the following revision to overdue penalties which will take effect from June 2012:
30th day Overdue: Replacement cost plus $25 Administrative fee.

Returns

Returned material may be deposited through the 24 hour returns chute near the Library entrance
